What You Know About Happiness is Completely Wrong

What You Know About Happiness is Completely Wrong

We’ve been taught how to be happy completely incorrectly. Many believe that happiness comes when something happens to you, like you get the job you’ve been searching for, or you complete that big project you’ve been working on; you equate success with happiness. Which is somewhat true, just in reverse. Let me explain. When we succeed at something, we don’t actually feel that much happier. Usually we just think, “Okay, what’s next?” Side-note here that a quick fix would be creating a habit of choosing to celebrate your success before even having that thought BUT what I’m here to discuss...

The Best 5 Books on Mindfulness

Books on mindfulness and Buddhism seemed to be vast, almost countless, perhaps even overwhelming at first. Before I received my first introductory book on mindfulness I imagined everyday practice was only accessible to monks or yoga teachers, but as you’ll learn by reading books on this list it’s for everyone.  Before I leaned what mindfulness was I thought it was meant only for buddhists. Beginning a Meditation Practice: Tips from a Fellow Beginner

Meditation has been a relatively new addition to my habits this year, and one that I have to want to do for it to happen. If I have “should” thoughts, where I say to myself “Ugh, I should meditate,” it just doesn’t happen. I’ve started changing my “should” thoughts to “want” statements, where instead I say to Alex, “I want to meditate tonight.” Not only does this create a much more positive emotional attachment to the action, Alex will hold me accountable to my statement and I’m much more likely to actually meditate that day. Maybe you want to start...

What is Vulture Culture?

Our name Vulture Gear is inspired by a community called vulture culture that (to the best of my knowledge) started on Tumblr. It’s a unique group of people that found each other through a common interest in collecting animal bones and taxidermy. Some members of vulture culture consider themselves vultures because they collect animal remains and allow them to decompose in some way to later collect the bones. Some vultures also skin the animals they find for the fur, though it will depend on the state of the animal.  Of course, not every collector has the means or desire to do...

What is a Fulfilling Life?

I figured, if I’m going to have a blog saying it’s going to help you live a fulfilling life, I should probably define what I think a fulfilling life is. Obviously, it looks different for everyone, but no one really defines it, other than it being an “awesome feeling.” Here’s my definition of a fulfilling life: a life where you have sustainable happiness fueled by the activities and people you love. Let me break this down for you: 1. Sustainable happiness - By this I don’t mean remembering how happy you were three days ago when something great happened to...
